After a Dream
Sigurdson "on the record"
Thanks for visiting this site to learn more about cellist Steven Sigurdson.
Please also visit the home site for Steve's all-new Suzuki school in Ann Arbor call StringSeeds Academy.
In addition to his accomplishments on stage and as a private teacher, Steven is proud to have his solo performances featured on recordings by well-known popular artists including Gloria Estefan, Extreme, Collective Soul, Zakk Wylde, Julio Iglesias, and many others.
For over 20 years he's had the honor of being among a select number of recording artists who are also voting members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), which presents the annual Grammy Awards.
Steven's own debut recording of favorite cello solos (as cellist in Duo Sull' Aria with harpist Nichole Luchs,) entitled After a Dream, is now available on CD Baby and may be sampled below. The CD was recorded and mastered by John Ovnik at Deaf Dog Records in Chicago.
Lastly, Steven is proud member of the Chicago Federation of Musicians, Local 10-208 of the American Federation of Musicians, and he's in the process of also joining the Detroit local as well. He firmly believes that when musicians stick together, everyone benefits. And while the union's current model for such cooperation certainly needs improvement, it's very much worthy of broad support from all working musicians. He hopes to participate in constructive dialogue regarding ways that the union can build a more positive image, both within the music industry and the throughout public as well.
Sigurdson's lovely recording (as cellist of Duo Sull' Aria), entitled 'After a Dream', is now available online. Here's the title track:
Over the past year, Steven has begun collaborating with a brilliant singer-songwriter from the Chicago area named Vessy Mink. Her songs and performances have been featured on episodes of Gilmore Girls. One of her recent song releases is entitled, 'Splash', and Steven is honored to have provided some backing cello solos on this outstanding track. Please check out Vessy's music on YouTube, and you can also see her perform live along with her phenomenally-talented husband, Kevin Hill, on drums.
Steven is a trained Suzuki Cello Teacher. He’s committed to teaching children as young as three about the joy of experiencing music through the cello, and he considers it an honor and a privilege to help children establish a relationship with music that they'll cherish throughout their lives. He’s recently teamed up with an outstanding violin and viola teacher (also trained in Suzuki) named Wendy Zohar, and in addition to performing chamber music with Wendy, Steven will soon be initiating a Suzuki-based school specifically for pre-K students in Ann Arbor called StringSeeds Academy. More info on this exciting venture is at www.stringseeds.org.
